The Stairway to Adventure

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

If your mindset is one of collecting experiences then you’re destined for a life filled with adventure. The people you meet, places you go and activities you participate in will transform your journey into one of discovery and connection. Here are 5 steps to experience adventure on a deeper level.

Be Open.  Adventure is about discovering something new. Different cultures give you the opportunity to experience traditions and customs that vary from your own. All five senses can be fully activated if you’re willing to tuck the map into your pocket and immerse yourself in the new.

Be Flexible.   Allow yourself to roam the road less traveled, literally. Forgo waiting in a long line to visit another exhibit, which will prove to be time consuming, and pursue something new. Find another experience that you had no idea existed prior to roaming.

Be Curious.  Interact and engage with locals. Ask questions and learn the history from their experiences and perspective. Inquire how they celebrate holidays, weddings and other special events in their lives.

Be Brave.  Confront challenges head on! Try speaking an unfamiliar language, and yes you’ll mispronounce words, but locals will happily help you perfect your accent. Taste unfamiliar food, play or watch a new sport, wander into a local place and listen to a different type of music as you dance to a another tune. Explore and experience what is outside of your comfort zone.

Be Generous.  It’s amazing how you can impact another person’s life with the things you may take for granted. Pack clothing, shoes, pens, and pads that you can give away. There are many communities in the world who have far less than you and it’s a wonderful way to share with someone that may need these items.

It’s easy to view adventure from the perspective of traveling to exotic destinations. And while adventure is found in those places, don’t forget that you live in a multi-cultural and diverse world which is available every time you walk out your front door.  Make the commitment to travel the trail of adventure as you explore new cultures and experiences. Follow these steps and you’re sure to climb the stairway to adventure.

Until next time, you know what to do…Continue Consciously Connecting

The Power of HOPE

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

How many times has a situation in your life felt hopeless? Maybe this one problem would destroy everything you had built and accomplished. What kept you going or may keep you going now? Is it the small and sometimes microscopic seed of hope that compels you to go on?

Hope guides you out of the agonizing abyss and the direction of despair, into the dimension of your dreams and desires. Hope crystallizes as you experience the synchronicity of finding a ladybug in the middle of winter, seeing the colors of a rainbow on an icicle, or the more tangible, and less mysterious phone call from someone you were just thinking about in that exact moment.  Now the pain gently begins to dissipate, like a tire slowly losing air.

The ability to latch onto hope is never easy, quick or free from pain. Usually pain has put us on the journey toward hope, hope then represents healing, and trust is the catalyst for it all.

After the darkness, on the other side of hope, everything is better than expected. This is the beauty of the unknown. Tomorrow always allows for new beginnings as you approach the day with rest and, the quieting and stillness of the mind. Hope is always ready to share a new vantage point on a still unsolved problem and the freedom to untether the connection to it.

Whether you reach out to another, or hold your own counsel, the bridge to hope can only be crossed on the path to belief. When you realize, and believe, there is a force bigger than you, something more powerful than pain, and a greater purpose to your moments of solitary destruction and darkness, then you will understand and find the thread to the power of hope.

You are resilient and the thread of hope continues to teach this year after year, problem after problem which leads to the path of solutions. As you trust in hope you recognize the potential to imagine new possibilities that are released after you have chosen patience.

Hang on to hope as you catapult to your greatness by Consciously Connecting.

Connect to Possibility

It’s a New Year and that usually gets me thinking about new possibilities and the road to travel this year.

What is your perception of possibility? What if you approached every opportunity as a new possibility to create exactly what you want.

Since January and the new calendar year always coincide it becomes easy to pinpoint this time of year as the time of possibility and new beginnings. By shifting your focus and being open to discovering what is possible at any time of the year, you are allowing for connection to possibility in every moment.  Trust that you can calculate, contemplate and complete what is necessary for your success.

The future and the odds being in your favor will change because your perspective is going to shift. Transform the impossible to the possible as you analyze your goals, put the plan into action, track your progress and measure your results one day at a time.

You are meant to have anything your heart desires and the path to achieving this is held by YOU! Plant the seed for a paradigm shift that allows for every possibility to exist. When the seeds of possibility are nurtured and cared for they grow into opportunities more than you ever imagined.

Choose to surround yourself with those who believe in you, support your goals and see your vision. Let your probabilities be possibilities as you awaken, adjust and align your expectations to achieve your dreams.

This is the year to put on your ruby slippers and follow your yellow brick road as you sow the seeds of possibility to everything!

Step into your limitless year as you begin or continue Consciously Connecting.

Choose JOY!

December bursts onto the scene with a bang! There are trees to decorate, sweet treats to bake, colorful lights to hang and a shopping list that’s a mile long. It’s easy to plug into the frenetic energy and sometimes just as easy to forget what the holiday season could be if you are open to something different.

Are you experiencing joy, and if not why? Joy is everywhere and not just during this time of year. There is so much joy as you connect to your blessings and what you have to look forward to in the New Year. You may be particularly joyful as you visit friends and family and relive the memories that keep you close.

It’s easy to become inspired by the beautiful store windows and displays, but keep your focus and perspective on your finances. Be realistic and follow the trail that allows your actions to be the inspiration for many as you live your truth.

Spend some time during this month reflecting on what you can give to others to make their dreams come true. Reflect on the year that’s about to close and give yourself time to begin thinking about new opportunities that are right around the corner.

The true celebration begins with you. How you care for yourself and how you care for others. This is the month to celebrate your greatness, the joy you give to the world, how you inspire, and the reflection looking back at you.

Enjoy the season as you continue Consciously Connecting to it all.

And the Other 364?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

For many of us Thanksgiving is special; the preparation, the cooking, the meal, all for this one day of celebration. We’re grateful to have family and friends. We’re humbled by the bounty on our tables. We’re lucky to have love in our lives. But where does the focus go after this day, what about the other 364 days in the year? With 364 other days, all those other experiences need a little thanks and gratitude too.

This Thanksgiving think of the two words that make the one: thanks and giving. Recognize this is the moment to look at these two words independently.

Imagine being grateful for your life, the journey, and all the experiences that make the sum total of you, every single day. Begin to change things up a bit as you acknowledge and practice your gratitude and thankfulness twice daily. Before you get out of bed in the morning give thanks for the first 5 things that come to mind. And at the close of the day do the same. Your list of 5 doesn’t have to remain the same, as one day you might give thanks for breathing, seeing, hearing and another day may have you grateful for a coffee pot, coffee mug, and the coffee, you get the point. It’s about shifting your mindset, changing your focus, and watching your whole world evolve.

Now examine how you give to the world on a daily basis. Do you mentor others, share kindness with a stranger, or give generously to those who have less? Do you give without the expectation of receiving something in return?  On Thanksgiving you give of yourself, open your home, and share a beautiful and well prepared meal and then there may be crickets as you wait 364 days to do it again. Perhaps this is the year to focus on your giving for the next 364 days until you again embrace the special tradition of Thanksgiving.

Set the goal to participate in the ritual of expressing thanks and making the conscious choice to give every single day. Walk away from making this only an annual tradition and choose to make this a part of your lifestyle.

Heartfelt thanks to you, as I am grateful you continue Consciously Connecting and ask that you share this message with others who need inspiration. I wish you happy thanks and happy giving!

To be (connected) or not to be?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Shakespeare said it best, “To be or not to be” that is the question and it still seems relevant today. So I ask–are you a human BE-ing or more of a human DO-ing?

Up until about 10 years ago I was definitely much more of a human DO-ing than a human BE-ing. More often than not I found myself immersed with a big list of to-dos and therefore my journey was always about moving quickly, getting it done, and then starting all over again. Exhausting, right?

How often do you begin your day or even a task, with the intention of BEing and instead end up on the path of DOing? For instance, look at the experience of visiting a new country. The desire to explore it all makes it very tempting to DO it all! It’s exciting to absorb the culture of a new place and it is easy to continue the fast and furious pace of everyday life.

Answering emails until the wee hours of the evening, continuing to follow what others are doing on Facebook, (note the word “doing”) and somehow not really enjoying the destination or the people we wanted to experience. This new adventure was what we desired, this is what we saved our money for, even used our miles to get here, but then again was it. Did we come to BE or to DO?

Maybe a little of both, but all too often we get swept away with the to-do list and forget all about our to-be list. We don’t have to visit every museum in a city before rewarding ourselves with a nice glass of something while sitting in a beautiful square watching people strolling by and sharing ideas and dreams with the person we’re with. Sometimes we’re busy DO-ing in the hope that we are earning time for BE-ing. But if we don’t make the conscious choice to connect with BE-ing we will never earn that time. By releasing all the expectations of everything we think we need to do, we can commit to giving ourselves the gift of BE-ing.

Take a step back, focus, and practice a little more BE-ing and a little less DO-ing. Trust me, you’ll still get everything done that was necessary, and you will feel more connected to it.

Continue Consciously Connecting to BE-ing and return when you’re ready…

Back to the Basics

September is synonymous with getting kids back to school and finally having a few moments of peace. For others there are palpable memories of new teachers, new experiences, and the new notebooks in which to record all the new information. What is the real meaning buried in September for grown-ups? What does September mean to them?

As a kid a favorite memory for me was picking out my new lunchbox and thermos. I would carefully walk up and down the aisle eyeballing all my options before I would carefully choose the one. After all this was a yearlong commitment and had to be taken seriously. I did not make this decision in haste, but rather slowly and methodically.

To this day I still have my metal Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm lunchbox, although the thermos broke decades ago, the box is intact and almost looks like new. Every time I see this lunchbox it puts a smile on my face as I recall how excited I was to proudly transport my PBJ sandwich to school. Beginning a new school year also meant focusing on new goals. My sharpened pencils were ready to do the job and resting in their shiny case. No doubt, I was set for the new adventure.

Every September my mind relives those memories as I settle in for the last third of the year.  The mood changes from summertime travel, picnics, and long days spent outdoors, as I begin to contemplate and work toward what is next. It’s important to bridge the gap between the goals I have set for the year and what is still needed to hit the mark by December.

Now is the time to strategize and execute the remainder of this year’s marathon. By taking inventory of impending expectations the picture is clear. It becomes necessary to tweak the future plan of action by recalculating and recalibrating the road map for the rest of the year.

How can you successfully complete your goals for this year? Do your plans need to be adjusted? Determine if you’re on target and remember it’s important to keep a flexible mindset. Remain open to adjusting your course of action and keep in mind that September is about getting back to the basics.

Life is a never-ending school so keep your pencils ready as you continue Consciously Connecting to all your goals!

Connected to Your Instincts?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

How often have you had a feeling when something wasn’t quite right? It might be a clench in the pit of your stomach, hmm possibly a stomach ache, or not. Or the ping you may hear, not your cell phone, or the chill as the hair on the back of your neck stands up and you realize something is about to happen, but what?

You feel something is a little off, and maybe you can’t pin point it right away, or don’t take the time to connect the dots. Instead, you chose to ignore it and continue going about your life.

These experiences have happened to all of us at one time or another. Our angels whisper to us, tap us on the shoulder, and sometimes nudge us a bit more. Occasionally we end up on the doorstep of catastrophe because we aren’t willing to slow down and connect to our instincts.

Not too long ago my husband was hit by a moving fork lift. He was thrown about 30 feet. Yes, you read that correctly and yes, he actually got up! And like all of us, he’s got so much happening at once, but I had to wonder if this wasn’t the universe giving him a big wake-up call.

Right before he was hit he looked down to get his phone, which was ringing, out of his pocket. Something he normally doesn’t do on a job site, but on that day he was compelled to answer the call. By bending his neck down, the impact of the hit sent his head to a neutral position, as opposed to whipping it back and causing severe whiplash.

So what’s the message? Does he need to do less, slow down, pay more attention? I’m not sure, and that’s for him to figure out. However, this incident got me thinking about hunches and following instincts.

Right now, today, make the commitment to begin listening. Listen to that little voice, become aware of the tap on your shoulder, the chills on the back of your neck, or whatever sensations connect you to your instincts. Give yourself permission to process the feelings flowing through you at this exact moment. Slow down and filter the information while you digest what the message is and what your other options may be.

You might think it’s easier to follow the roadmap later, put the pieces of the puzzle together next week, but when does next week ever come. Taking time to spontaneously connect to your instincts, in that exact moment, can make a big difference. The impulse to keep going and decipher all the signs at another time is human nature, especially since you have so many things on the daily to-do list. You think it’s impossible to take time for something that isn’t yet on the list.

This is the path that needs your persistence. The rewards are often unknown, but sometimes they are the awakening that can change your life.

Continue to listen, watch, and connect, as the life you save may be your own, literally. Continue Consciously Connecting and your instincts will tell you when to return.

Play Gives Us Connection!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

As you enthusiastically prepare for the long, warm days of summer, and reach for your sun block, hat and swimming suit, it becomes easier to relax into the idea of play. Now you can begin to plan for grown up playtime. Pump up your bike tires, get out the camping gear, or anything else which may get you mentally connected into play. Maybe Frisbees are your answer to a sweet summer and what you enjoyed as a kid.  So the question today is…how will you engage in play this summer?

Remember hide-and-seek, kick the can and stick ball? Maybe your neighborhood had a nightly ritual of playing hopscotch on carefully drawn squares made with colored chalk. Perhaps eating watermelon on the front porch and seeing how far you can spit the seeds is your definition of playtime nirvana. Would you consider playing croquet, using a hula hoop or jumping rope the next time you head outside? Have you ever wondered why playtime is encouraged and so important for children? The secret of playtime allows you to unlock many useful tools and teaches valuable life lessons.

Problem Solving: For instance, take problem solving and the game of hide-and-seek. This game requires the art of solving the immediate problem: find the perfect place to hide, so you do not get found.  Learning to solve problems, no matter how insignificant, works to wire the brain toward resolution. And, if you’re adept at seeing the road to resolution you become an asset to any team.

Team Work: So what about team work and camaraderie? Games like this often require helping each other so no player is left without a place to hide, even if it means risking your hiding place. Being part of a team requires learning the difference between leading and supporting. Whether it’s hide-and-seek or some other task in life, understanding how to work as a part of a team opens the door to new experiences and adventures.

Creativity: Engaging in any type of play allows for many opportunities to see obstacles in a different paradigm, thus building a bridge to creative alternatives. Think about the game of Monopoly and how creative strategies need to be devised to purchase properties, homes and hotels. If you continue to keep a connection to creativity, solutions to problems surface more easily and quickly.

Independence: Play also moves you toward greater independence. Following your desire to play on a swing, as opposed to what everyone else is doing, embraces your needs. You can be part of a group, yet experience the independence to participate and connect in a way that engages your happiness. It’s great to belong to a group, however experiencing the freedom of individuality cements the idea that independence is a cornerstone in the importance of playtime. The value of listening to your preferences and instincts opens the road to independence.

Confidence: Can play build confidence? You bet! Trying new alternatives during playtime is often effortless because there is less to lose if you go out on a limb. It is easier to be daring and try new activities when you are in the mode of play. This helps to increase your confidence as you become braver to take on new tasks as your life progresses.

The benefit that play represents in our lives is tenfold! So the next time you are invited to play, and feel you cannot give up that block of time, take a moment to rethink the value of play and how it can enrich your life. By choosing to connect to play you are connecting to everything. If you’re connected to being your best summertime kid you won’t experience the newest dilemma of FOMO; Fear of Missing Out. Why? Because you’ll be playing and living your life, instead of watching other’s living their lives on the internet.

Go out and play, and when you’re done, we’ll connect. Until then, Continue Consciously Connecting.

Awaken Your Energy and Connect

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Are you working to awaken, connect, and honor your energy, or does it feel stagnant and blocked? If the latter is more true, it is time to dust off the cobwebs and get your energy aligned so you can experience all the good vibes, love, and happiness headed in your direction.

As the calendar turns to May we are one step closer to summer sunshine, beginning the work in our gardens, and for many of us, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. For some, the energy that was felt from being protected, loved, and nurtured, are inextricably intertwined and connected to a mother’s love. However, not everyone has experienced a mother in this way.

If the path of energy with your mom is blocked, consider the energy of attention and dedication that you have felt from others. Have you acknowledged the supportive and warm affection from a teacher, friend, or mentor? If so, you are aware of what uplifting and loving energy feels like and this becomes the focus. This is where you want to put your energy so you can work to attract more of this in your life from those who surround you.

Disconnect from those who place a fog of self-doubt and criticism around your energy field and continue to consciously be aware of how you interact with all living things. Understanding how powerful and lasting these impressions are and then choose to direct your energy accordingly.

One definition for mother is creator: a person or thing that creates. Those in your close proximity and surroundings, and even people you barely know, are in your sphere of energy and creation. What you do, what you say, and the energy you create, impacts you, as well as many others.  Choose to be active, awake, and aware, as you create an energy field that is vibrant and full of enlightenment.

Happy Mother’s Day, whether you are a mother to children or not, you are a mother to all your creations. And thank you to my mother who has always been open and honest, and taught me how to awaken my energy and connect. You are a true gift and I love you dearly!

Energy changes as you do, so work to create what matters most. Continue Consciously Connecting to awaken your energy on the path to all things great! We’ll connect again soon.
